Change Is Possible for Gays, Says Psychologist

Wedding cakeNow here’s something not easily dismissed because it is from a Zenit.org (June 15/09) news item. According to a story on Zenit:

A Catholic psychologist who specializes in reparative therapy with homosexuals says it’s possible for those with same-sex attractions to change, despite agenda-driven ideologies that state the opposite.

Joseph Nicolosi, founder and director of the Thomas Aquinas Psychological Clinic in Encino, spoke with ZENIT about his experience as a clinical psychologist and the former president of the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH).

The more interesting bits of what Nicolosi had to say have been reported before on sites like LifesiteNews.com and WorldNetDaily. Which is that one of the august(?) bodies of the medical and scientific community in the United States, the American Pyschological Association, had quietly toned down its previous, politically correct position asserting that homosexuality was caused by genetic factors.

It appears now that the American Psychological Association (APA), has suddenly awoken from a stupor to remember that its membership consists of scientists first, propagandists and ideologues next. The APA’s surprise admission allows that other factors, such as environmental influences, also explain why some people become homosexual, and being gay does not have entirely biological causes. Just like good old orthodox Catholic teaching has always said.

Factors like family breakdown, emotional trauma, dominance of mother-headed households, indoctrination in schools, cultural arrogance, racial hubris, societal ennui induced by godlessness and childlessness, brainwashing by media, and the good old devil channeling through (especially liberal-leftist) politicians all can work alone or in combination to produce people who dip into homosexual activity or remain there permanently – as opposed to the born that way ones.

Here’s some more from that Zenit story:

Nicolosi, also the author of “Healing Homosexuality: Case Stories of Reparative Therapy” and “A Parent’s Guide to Preventing Homosexuality,” asserted that many people have already adopted the erroneous assumptions put forth by the APA.

There is a need to assist and minister to men and women “who are looking for help to come out of homosexuality,” he said, “because so many times they are just told ‘Well, you’re born this way,’ pointing to the APA and saying ‘because they said it.’”

He expressed the hope that as the APA recognizes the efficacy of therapy with homosexual persons, more psychologists will be encouraged to be involved in this type of treatment.

“Within our profession,” the psychologist explained, “we trump politics with science.” In other words, if we challenge the APA with scientific data, it “has to override any political or special interest forces.”

He continued:

“This is not about going after an oppressed minority. It’s not about pointing out pathology for the sake of pointing out pathology.

“This is telling young people, look, if you go down this road, you are likely to have a higher level of depression, anxiety, failed relationships, sexual promiscuity, drug and alcohol abuse than people who live their lives heterosexually. You will get involved in more, to be polite, esoteric exotic sexual practices. It goes on and on and on.

“And that’s just science, simply a comparison of two groups.”

The therapist added, “This notion that you are going to fall in love with a man and live happily ever after is Hollywood. The reality is that it’s a hard lifestyle.”

I rather agree with the main thrust of this Zenit story. Since I have been sojourning in North America these past few years, the evidence of my eyes and experiences are perfectly in accord with what Niclosi is saying. This current gay age is largely the result of racial, cultural, academic and intellectual arrogance.

The question is: Why did the APA have a change of orientation about the ‘gay gene?” Could the U-turn have come from fright about lawsuits from gays and children of gays down the line? As in those who will inevitably blame organizations like the APA for misleading them into living lifestyles way beneath their human dignity?

Some sexually avaricious heterosexual people have become celibate [such as St. Augustine] and some disturbingly promiscuous ones have settled down eventaully to monogamy in marriage. For a medical association to validate any group in a belief that you can’t, now or ever, rein in your sexual urges or behaviours and that it is unhealthy to do so, is well…courting a mamoth lawsuit down the line for current harm.

I will end with links to two stories found today that invite unease. One, about the trend of middle class girls in the UK making out to be gay, to arouse boys among other things. The other, about the sexual molestation of a black infant adopted by a gay couple. The abuser, a white male in a high up administrative position at Duke University, even put his perverse acts out on the internet. Notice how this Associated Press account of the incident gives no clue that the abused child is black or that his molesting “perv dad” is gay.

Lord, have mercy.
